Can I Use Custom JavaScript With Popup Maker?
Yes, absolutely! We even have a JavaScript API (read on).
Choose How You Want to Add Your Custom Code
First, choose how you want to add your code. WordPress does a great job of supporting custom JavaScript (JS) via hooks. But you need to follow the “WordPress Way.”
We prefer using code snippet plugins to install and run custom JS. It makes following the “WordPress Way” a breeze. But there are other options for loading custom JS.

Lastly, writing custom code is an advanced skill that comes with risk. Please check out our code disclaimer before starting the process below.
Visit Popup Maker’s JS API Documentation
Once you choose which way to add JS to your site, you can use Popup Maker’s JavaScript API to interact with your popup. That way, you’ll know what function(s) to use for your custom code. We’ve got a bunch, so make sure to check the doc before diving into writing code.
Use Our jQuery Template
We have an example code template that gets you started. Our template comes complete with the WP hook and jQuery outline, but you need to make sure the code runs properly on your site.
You can also get a full breakdown of what the example code snippet does when you read our Getting Started With Custom JavaScript guide.

Major caveat: Every time you use custom code, you take responsibility for testing and maintaining it. Here are some best practices you should follow:
Disable custom code when troubleshooting conflicts: Whenever you need to troubleshoot your site for a possible plugin or theme conflict, make sure you disable all custom code.
Back up your site: Make sure you have a recent full backup of your site.
Use a staging site: Test your code on a staging copy of your live site.
Tweak the example: Remember that any custom code example you decide to reuse is exactly that—an example! Meaning that you’ll need to tweak and make sure the code works in your environment and meets your needs.
Can Popup Maker Support SEO?
Yes! Popup Maker includes a few simple settings that help keep your site lean and search-friendly.
- Add a targeting condition to each popup so it only loads on the pages where you actually want it, instead of every page by default. This keeps your pages lighter and avoids repeating the same popup content site-wide.
- Turn on Don’t Load Google Fonts under Popup Maker > Settings > Misc > Assets if your theme already provides the fonts you need.
- Every popup you build is responsive by default, so it looks great on both desktop and mobile without any extra setup.
Together, these settings make it easy to keep your popups fast, tidy, and search-friendly.
Why Don’t I See the Trigger a Popup Option in Appearance > Menus?
This usually comes down to a conflict, not a bug. WordPress allows only one Walker_Nav_Menu_Edit class to run at a time, the part that adds extra fields (like Popup Maker’s Trigger a Popup option) to each menu item. If your theme or another plugin supplies its own version of that class without the right hook, their version wins, and Popup Maker’s field doesn’t get a chance to show up.
