Upgrades should process in just a few minutes depending on the number of popups your site has. You should see constant and steady progress bar movement. If not this likely applies to you.
If you start processing upgrades and they never finish, or you never see progress, this nearly always indicates a PHP error has occurred preventing the upgrade from starting properly.
