Popup Maker version 1.9 introduced the Close on Form Submission setting, Form Submission trigger, and Form Submission cookie features for the growing list of form plugins Popup Maker integrates with.
What’s in This Guide #
This help guide shows you how to:
- Automatically close a form popup using the Close on Form Submission setting.
- Launch a “thank you” or “confirmation” popup using the Form Submission trigger.
- Stop the redisplay of a form popup using the Form Submission cookie.
These 3 integrated form features work for any form plugin Popup Maker integrates with. For simplicity, we use Gravity Forms in the examples below.
Create a Cookie on Form Submit #
Popup Maker integrates directly with popular form plugins such as Gravity Forms (GF) to let you automatically create a browser cookie after submitting a form inside a popup. The cookie stops your popup from displaying again after the form is successfully submitted. That avoids annoying your visitors who’ve already filled out your form.
Follow these steps to set a browser cookie after submitting an integrated form inside a Popup Maker popup:
1. Edit a popup #
- Go to Popup Maker > All Popups.
- Hover over the name of the popup you want to edit.
- Click the name of the popup or click Edit.
2. Go to Popup Settings under the main editor area #
3. Click Triggers to open the trigger settings tab #
4. Click Add New Cookie #
5. Select the form in your popup to create a cookie when someone submits the form #
In the example above, we did the following:
- Chose a form named “Gravity Forms Test Form”.
- We kept the default Cookie Name and Cookie Time.
- Lastly, we checked Only in this popup, so only this popup sets the cookie.
Click Update to add your Form Submission cookie to your popup.
6. Connect your Form Submission cookie to your popup trigger #
Click the pencil icon for the trigger that opens your popup.
Click inside the Cookie Name field for your popup trigger, then select the Form Submission cookie you added earlier. In the example below, we selected our Form Submission cookie that we added with the default cookie name.
Click Update to save your changes to the popup trigger.
Remember to Update your popup to save all the changes you just did for the popup.
Close a Popup on Form Submit #
Because Popup Maker has built-in support (integration) with plugins such as Gravity Forms, your popup can automatically close after you submit the form. That saves people from an extra click to dismiss the popup after submitting. How’s that for convenience?
Follow these steps to automatically close a popup after a form submission:
1. Go to your popup’s Popup Settings > Close > Form Submission tab #
2. Click the Close on Form Submission checkbox to turn it on #
3. Add a Delay time #
In the screen capture above, we used 2 seconds (2,000 ms) to give people enough time to read our confirmation message before the popup closes.
Remember to update your popup to save your changes.
Open a Popup on Form Submit #
Popup Maker’s Form Submission trigger (included in the free version) has built-in support for some of the most popular form plugins. This dedicated forms trigger automatically displays a popup when you submit a supported form. It’s perfect for popping up things like a special thank you message or a free download.
Follow these steps to display a “thank you” popup after someone submits a supported form:
1. Create a popup #
Add your content via the popup editor.
2. From the Triggers tab, click Add Trigger #
3. Click Form Submission in the What kind of trigger do you want? dropdown #
4. Select the form that will trigger a popup to open when someone submits the form #
In the example below, we want to open our popup after someone submits the form called “Gravity Forms Test Form”. We also added a 1-second delay so the popup opens 1 second after the form submission.
5. Click Add #
Remember to Publish your new popup to save changes and make it live!
Heads up! We’re Deprecating the Original Close Popup and Open Popup Settings #
The Close and Open Popup Gravity Forms Settings are Deprecated #
At the time of writing this update, we are removing the old Close Popup and Open Popup settings that are inside integrated form builders such as Gravity Forms. Please use the Close on Form Submission setting and Form Submission trigger we covered above.
