This help guide covers setting up each Popup Maker Call to Action (CTA) type for LifterLMS. LifterLMS action types are available in Pro+.

What are Call to Action, Action Types?
Think of LifterLMS CTA Action Types as LifterLMS actions (e.g., enrolling in a course) “packaged” inside a button.
Here’s an example
In the short clip below, we have a “Free Course” popup that’ll open on any LifterLMS page. When we go to the Course Catalog page, that popup appears with an Enroll in Course CTA (“Enroll me now” button).
When we click Enroll me now, Popup Maker runs the LifterLMS enroll action to enroll us in the course. We also set up a redirect to bring up the course page after we enrolled.
Where do I find these Action Types?
When you create a new or edit a Popup Maker CTA, click the Action Type field to see a dropdown of all LifterLMS actions.
OK, let’s go through each LifterLMS action type you can use in a Popup Maker CTA.
Apply Coupon
Use this Apply Coupon CTA Action Type mainly for exit-intent popups. This action applies one or more coupon codes to your customer’s cart and redirects them to the checkout page.
Before you show this CTA to a customer, they must have a membership plan in their cart (LifterLMS requirement).
1. Select LifterLMS – Apply Coupon from Action Type
2. Select one or more Coupon Codes (e.g., FIRSTMONTH50)
3. Click Save Call to Action
Enroll in Course
Use the Enroll in Course action to enroll a learner in one or more courses when they click your CTA button.
You can automatically send notifications and redirect people to the course’s homepage, all with this action.
1. Select LifterLMS – Enroll in Course from Action Type
2. Select your courses (e.g., LifterLMS Quickstart Course)
3. Click Skip if Already Enrolled
This is optional, but it’s good practice.
4. Select Current Logged-in User from Target User
5. Click Send Notifications
This is optional, but good practice too.
6. Select or enter your Redirect URL
We recommend redirecting to the course’s homepage.
7. Enter a Conversion Value
Add a conversion value, e.g, 1.0.
8. Click Save Call to Action
Enroll in Membership
Use the Enroll in Membership CTA Action Type to enroll your learners in one or more memberships when they click your CTA button.
1. Select LifterLMS – Enroll in Membership from Action Type
2. Click Memberships to Enroll and select a membership (e.g., Silver Access)
3. Click Skip if Already Enrolled
This is optional, but it’s good practice.
4. Select Current Logged-in User from Target User
5. Click Send Notifications
This is optional, but good practice too.
6. Select or enter your Redirect URL
We recommend redirecting to your memberships homepage.
7. Enter a Conversion Value
Add a conversion value, e.g, 1.0.
8. Click Save Call to Action
Award Achievement
Use the Award Achievement action in a CTA to award one or more achievements (e.g., Course Completion Badge) to a learner.
Awarding does not double-award or re-trigger notifications.
1. Select LifterLMS – Award Achievement from Action Type
2. Select one or more Achievements to Award
3. Check Skip if Already Earned
This is optional, but it’s good practice.
4. Fill in the remaining standard fields (optional)
Fill in Target User, Send Notifications, Redirect URL, and Conversion Value as needed.
5. Click Save Call to Action
Award Certificate
You can create a CTA that issues a certificate to a student using the Award Certificate action. You can actually award multiple certificate templates (just with different dates and times).
1. Select LifterLMS – Award Achievement from Action Type
2. Select one or more Certificates to Award
3. Check Skip if Already Earned
This is optional, but it’s good practice.
4. Fill in the remaining standard fields (optional)
Fill in Target User, Send Notifications, Redirect URL, and Conversion Value as needed.
5. Click Save Call to Action
Send Email
Use the Send Email CTA Action Type to send one or more email notifications when you click a CTA button.
This CTA type is excellent for automatically emailing students a welcome message or a course status notification.
1. Select LifterLMS – Send Email from Action Type
2. Search and select the emails you want to send
3. Click Prevent Duplicate Emails
This is optional, but good practice. For example, you probably don’t want to send anybody 5 welcome emails if they clicked your CTA 5 times by accident.
4. Fill in the remaining standard fields (optional)
Fill in Target User, Send Notifications, Redirect URL, and Conversion Value as needed.
5. Click Save Call to Action
Remove Course
Use this CTA to remove one or more enrolled courses.
1. Select LifterLMS – Remove Course from Action Type
2. Click one or more Courses to Remove
3. Select your Removal Type
- Expire Enrollment (keeps history)
- Delete Enrollment (removes completely)
4. Check Skip if Not Enrolled
This is optional, but it’s good practice.
5. Fill in the remaining standard fields (optional)
Fill in Target User, Send Notifications, Redirect URL, and Conversion Value as needed.
6. Click Save Call to Action
Remove Membership
Use this CTA to remove one or more memberships from a student.
1. Select LifterLMS – Remove Membership from Action Type
2. Click one or more Memberships to Remove
3. Select your Removal Type
